We are very excited to offer group fitness for seniors with a variety of SilverSneakers®/Renew Active™/Senior classes at Coach Mel’s. While these classes are intended for older adults, they are also a great way to start exercising, or getting back to exercising after an illness, surgery, etc.

Our SilverSneakers signature classes

SilverSneakers Classic
45 minutes – Level 1 (standing or sitting)
Designed to increase muscle strength, range of movement and improve activities for daily living. This is a beginning level class that utilizes hand-held weights, resistance bands and a ball. A chair is used for seated exercises and standing support and class can be modified depending on fitness levels.

SilverSneakers Strength & Stability
This class will resume when live classes are offered.
45 minutes – Level 2 (standing)
This class is designed to help you become stronger and improve balance. The movements taught in class focus on specific exercises to improve strength and power around the ankle, knee and hip joints, while improving your reaction time. This class is designed for fall prevention and is suitable for nearly every fitness level. A chair may be used for balance and support.

SilverSneakers Circuit
45 minutes – Level 3 (mostly standing with some sitting)
The SilverSneakers Circuit workout offers standing, low-impact choreography alternated with standing upper-body strength work with hand-held weights, resistance bands and a ball. A chair is available for standing support or to sit if needed during resistance sections.

SilverSneakers BOOM MOVE IT
45 minutes – Level 5 (standing throughout class)
A higher intensity dance workout class that improves cardio endurance and burns calories. MOVE is all about breaking a sweat and having fun. The class focuses on cardio endurance by starting with simple dance moves then building into more complex sequences, bringing you a great cardio workout.

SilverSneakers BOOM MUSCLE
45 minutes – Level 5 (standing throughout class)
MUSCLE incorporates athletic-based exercises that improve upper and lower body conditioning. You’ll move through several “blocks,” which are groups of exercises that focus on different muscle groups as well as cardio blocks. The focus of this class is on toning muscles and building overall strength and improve cardio endurance.

Kettlebell for Seniors
45 minutes – Level 5 (standing throughout class)
Kettlebell for seniors takes great music and your favorite kettlebell moves and combines them into 45 minutes of calorie-torching fun. This class is done both standing and seated and is perfect for an active older adult or someone who is just starting their exercise journey.

Cardio Class for Seniors
45-minutes – Level 5 (standing throughout class)
This class will have you moving your feet from beginning to end. We’ll start with some dynamic stretching to warm up the body, joints and muscles and then move into some moderate movement following by a march. We will then transition to a longer movement time followed by a recovery march leading to a final cool-down march and stretching. This class is held inside.

Zumba
This class will resume when live classes are offered.
45-minutes – Level 5 (standing throughout class)
TOTAL-BODY STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING
We take the “work” out of workout by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie burning dance fitness party. Once the Latin and World rhythms take over, you’ll see why Zumba Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise. Super effective and super fun!

Chair Yoga
This class will resume when live classes are offered.
1 hour – Level 2 (sitting with some standing)
Get ready to move through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered so you can perform a variety of seated and standing postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity. This class is suitable for nearly every fitness level.
There is a $5 fee to participate in this class. Preregistration is required, payment is due at the time of registering. Please speak with Coach Mel for payment options.
Group Fitness for Seniors at 6:45 AM
The following classes are covered by both SilverSneakers and Renew Active insurance. These classes are also offered to the general population at Coach Mel’s. These are all very high level classes that involve both standing and floor training. Please speak with Coach Mel directly before signing up to take any of these classes.

Boot Camp
45-minutes – Strength
These classes focus on performing a number of strength exercises for a certain number of reps, repeated for a period of time. You will use a variety of equipment during these workouts including Kettlebells, TRX Suspension trainer, dumbbells, medicine balls, etc. Class design changes on a monthly basis to avoid plateaus.

The Big M.A.C. HIIT
45-minutes – Cardio
The Big M.A.C. uses weights for strength training with combination cardio moves for an amazing HIIT workout!! Strength moves to push your muscles, cardio to increase your endurance!
Come give it a try, you may be sore, a good sore, for days!

P90X Live
TOTAL-BODY STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING

Coach Mel's Strength Workout
45-minutes – Strength
You will work circuit-style strength training in this 45-minute class. This workout will include both lower body and upper body strength training with some core work as well. All moves are done with dumbbells focusing on sets of reps. Increasing your weights as you progress month after month is the goal. We will build muscle to burn fat.

Totally Tabata
45-minutes – Cardio
20 seconds of work followed by 10 seconds of rest is what this workout is all about. This workout is cardio based with some weight work but movement is our focus. We will work the whole body with different combinations each month.
All classes are for ALL fitness levels.
Your certified instructor will show you modifications to match YOUR fitness level.
