Yellow road sign stating Finish Line Ahead

It’s Not About the Finish Line

When you set out to accomplish something, whether to finish a race, lose weight, or get your house organized, there is a finish line, or at least you hope there is.  However, it’s not the finish line you should be focusing on, it’s all the steps it takes to get to the finish that matter most.

tips to help set yourself up for success

1. Small, steady progress is important. Break big tasks down into bite-sized pieces and this will help you feel accomplished along the way and not get burned out. Keep going if you are on a roll, but if you are tired you may cause more harm than good so it may be time to take a break or stop for that day.

2. Give yourself time to be successful. Don’t expect to tackle everything in a day, a week, or maybe even a month. Set realistic timelines and stick to them the best you can. As mentioned in tip 1 some days you’ll be in a groove and some days you just won’t make progress, but that’s ok and should be expected with a big project.

3. Don’t strive for perfection. Getting something done is better than doing nothing. Let’s face it, there are just some days when you don’t have your mojo. It’s okay. Pick something small that you can complete in a couple of minutes to feel accomplished then pick it up again another day.

4. Learn from failure so you don’t have the same failure happen over and over again. When you make a mistake it will stick with you and it may make you mad, but rather than dwell on it, learn from it and move on.

No matter what it is that you put on your plate to accomplish, remember that the finish line will always be there. It’s how you get there that matters.

Make being healthy BEFORE you NEED to be healthy one of your finish lines. How will you get there? Exercise and eating healthy are two steps you can start today!
