Meal Planning with Hello Fresh foods

Meal Planning and Prep Made Easy

Planning Your Weekly Meals

Having a plan is key to healthy eating but coming up with meal ideas each week is, quite frankly, a pain in the butt! And it doesn’t end there, then you have to make a shopping list and go shopping. Then there is the prep, making sure you have all of the ingredients and planning what you’ll eat when. There is a simpler way…

Hello Fresh

A couple of months ago my sister-in-law gave me a 3 free meal trial from Hello Fresh, a food/meal delivery service. I was hooked from the first meal I had! Just about everything you need to prepare the meal is delivered right to your door (salt, pepper, olive oil, and butter not included) and you get a recipe card with step-by-step instructions to prepare and cook the meal. Each week you have several different meals to choose from including vegetarian options. You select the number of meals you receive each week, the number of portions (2 or 4), and the day you would like your package delivered.

Pros Of Using Hello Fresh

There are several different meals to choose from. I’ve been using it for 2 months, 4 meals per week, and have not eaten the same meal twice.

You get a recipe card for each meal so you can try to reproduce the meals on your own.

Your food is packaged in the portions you’ve ordered. I get 2 portions, for myself and my husband, and it’s just the right amount, there is no going back for seconds so you are eating proper portions.

There is less wasted food since you get exactly what you need.

Vegetables are being eaten with every meal.

Making meals this way has taught me some very easy cooking methods, flavor combinations that I can use in my own cooking.

This is reasonably priced, we are spending about $20 per meal including shipping. (Some meals are priced higher such as steak meals or some seafood meals)

Cons Of Using Hello Fresh

Yes, there is a lot of packaging. The shipping materials are recyclable but there are several packages for the smaller ingredients.

No leftovers – if you are looking to have leftovers for another meal, there is not enough. If you are one person getting a 2 portion meal there is plenty left over, just be certain to only eat 1/2 for each meal.

There is prep and cooking time to consider, these are not precooked meals nor are items chopped, sliced, etc. for you.

So Happy I Gave It A Try

I will say I was a bit skeptical at first. I was concerned it was going to be too expensive and that the meals would just be OK. I cannot say enough good things about Hello Fresh. There are several of these types of meal services available, this is the one I’ve tried and I do love it! Everything has been fresh, well packaged, and extremely tasty. I look forward to my dinner each night knowing that I’m going to be trying something new. I also look forward to having some of my favorite meals again!
